Let us introduce ourselves to you.

Ruthie was born and raised in the Village of Intercourse.  Her parents were both brought up in the Amish church but left the Amish to join a Mennonite church when she was two years old.  Her family spoke Pennsylvania Dutch and her parents continued to speak “Dutch” to each other throughout their life.  Grandparents and some extended family members remained Amish and therefore, she was very comfortable in their homes and grew up understanding their customs. John was born and raised near Gap, Pennsylvania in an Old Order Amish family and is the oldest of nine children.  His father was a farmer and John worked on the family farm until age eighteen. He left the Amish faith when he was age twenty one. All but two of the siblings remain in the Old Order Amish Church. Our family consists of our son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Liz, granddaughters, Sophia and Anneliese and their brother Quinn. Our daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jon, and grandsons, Judah and Asher. John is self-employed in construction and does replacement windows.  Ruthie is co-owner and manager of Stoltzfus Farm Restaurant.  They are both involved in their church, Keystone Evangelical Free Church. The History of The Amish Guest House and Cottage

This charming ranch house was built in 1951 by a gentleman named Earl King.  Amish carpenters completed much of its construction.  For nearly 45 years, the Goods called this house home. Raymond and Mary Lou Good established the Amish Guest House in 1996 as the first guesthouse in the small village of Intercourse, Pennsylvania.  They created a warm, cozy atmosphere in this quaint and comfortable home.   We, John and Ruthie Stoltzfus, seek to continue in the same tradition, offering the comforts and convenience of home.  It will be your home away from home and we believe your visit will be a truly memorable “Amish-style” experience. “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!”  Hebrews 13:2, NLT

Intercourse, PA … a small town located in the heart of one of the richest farming areas in the nation.  It is also home to one of the largest Amish settlements in the country. This quaint town maintains a traditional American heritage supported by the Old Order Amish community.  Amish-owned shops, farms and one-room schoolhouses sprinkle the beautiful, serene countryside. The Amish are a people who are committed to God.  They are very interconnected to their communities through church and family.  Should a neighbor need help reconstructing a barn following a fire or completing the farm chores during an illness, their Amish neighbors are the first to lend a helping hand. Family is very important to them and they honor their parents by caring for them in their old age.  Typically, they do not move off the homestead but instead, move into smaller quarters.  These quarters are called the “Dawdi haus” (dah-dee- hahs), or the “Grandparents’ house”.
